Q&A

Why online therapy?

With telehealth you can receive the same quality care as you would in an office but in the comfort of your own home or anywhere you have an internet connection. Our sessions will be conducted on a HIPAA compliant platform.

It’s completely understandable to feel hesitant about starting online therapy if you’re used to traditional in-person sessions, and especially if you’re new to therapy. Here are a few tips to help you feel more comfortable:

Start Slowly: I invite you to schedule a free consultation so you can get a sense of who I am and what it’s like to meet together online.

Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you have about the process. Understanding how online therapy works can help alleviate some of your concerns.

Create a Comfortable Environment: Set up a quiet and comfortable space for your sessions where you won’t be interrupted. Having a dedicated space for therapy can help you feel more relaxed and focused.

Express Your Concerns: Let me know if you’re feeling hesitant about online therapy. I can offer support and guidance to help you feel more comfortable with the process.

Give It Time: Like any new experience, it may take some time to adjust to online therapy. Be patient with yourself and give it a chance before making any decisions.

Remember, it’s okay to feel nervous about trying something new, but online therapy can be a valuable resource for your mental health and well-being.

How does online therapy work?

We can have sessions from anywhere that you have an internet connection, video-enabled device, and a private place to talk. Once we have set an appointment, you will receive an email with directions and a link to your session. Everything else works much like in-person therapy.

Is Online Therapy Effective?

Yes. Research studies (and my own experience) strongly suggest that online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for a wide range of issues, including grief, stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.

What will my first session be like?

For many new clients, therapy can initially trigger feelings of anxiety, which is completely normal. It’s common to feel a bit uneasy during the first few sessions. However, as you establish a rapport with me and become familiar with the process, these anxieties typically diminish. Take pride in taking the first step towards change by scheduling the appointment!

To prepare for your initial session, you can complete the client history form online in advance and jot down any questions you may have. During the first few minutes of the session, we’ll review the paperwork and go over our informed consent to ensure you understand your rights and our office policies. Once we’ve covered these essentials, we’ll delve into understanding your concerns thoroughly and begin crafting goals and a plan to address them.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

This question is as unique as you are and depends on several factors, including your goals for therapy, the severity of the issues discussed, and your openness to actively participate in your treatment. Your level of motivation and willingness to apply what is learned during sessions also has a large influence on the number of sessions. My goal is help you achieve your goals as quickly as possible; we will collaboratively review your treatment goals to assess your progress and to determine if treatment needs to be adjusted in any way.

What are your rates?

I understand that therapy is an investment, and I do everything possible to help you to maximize your investment. My fee is $175 per 50-minute counseling session and $225 for a new client (initial intake) 90-minute counseling session.

I have a limited number of reduced fee openings for low-income clients or those with demonstrated financial need, so please contact me if finances are a barrier.

Do you take insurance?

Like many psychotherapists and medical professionals, I have chosen to not contract with health insurance plans. This is due to the bureaucratic challenges that come along with such contracts, not the least of which are limits to clients’ confidentiality. That said, your insurance may likely reimburse a significant portion of the cost of your psychotherapy sessions with me.

I’ve partnered with Mentaya, a service that streamlines getting reimbursed for your therapy sessions through out-of-network benefits. Mentaya is perfect if you:

  • Have out of network benefits
  • Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance
  • Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement
  • Simply want to skip the hassle of paperwork!

Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim, which includes handling any paperwork required, dealing with denials, and calling insurance companies. It’s risk-free: They guarantee claims are successfully submitted, or a full refund of their fees. I rely on Mentaya to tackle all things insurance. Their team of support and insurance specialists at support@mentaya.com can readily answer your questions.

Note: Mentaya’s goal is to save you time and money. It’s completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation. Invoices/superbills will also be available to you if you prefer to submit them yourself to your insurance provider for out-of-network (OON) reimbursement.

All fees are due on the date of service.

How do I know if I’m eligible for out of network (OON) benefits?

We have partnered with Mentaya to help clients use their out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy. Use this tool below to see if you qualify for reimbursement for my services.
